How to Play Zip

Zip is a Hamiltonian path game. You must draw a single continuous route that visits every cell on the grid exactly once, passing through numbered waypoints in order. Movement is horizontal or vertical only — no diagonals, no jumps. It exercises planning, spatial awareness, and the ability to think several moves ahead.

Zip Rules

1

Draw one continuous path that covers every cell in the grid.

2

Start at cell numbered 1 and pass through each numbered waypoint in ascending order.

3

The path may only move horizontally or vertically — no diagonal moves.

4

Every cell must be visited exactly once — no revisiting and no skipping.

5

The path must end at the highest numbered waypoint.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Step 1

Identify all numbered waypoints on the board and note their positions.

  2. Step 2

Start drawing from waypoint 1. Tap or drag to extend the path cell by cell.

  3. Step 3

Focus on reaching the next numbered waypoint while trying not to trap yourself in a corner.

  4. Step 4

Watch for narrow corridors and edge cells — these often force the path direction.

  5. Step 5

If your path gets stuck, drag backwards to undo cells and try a different route.

Strategy & Tips

🧩

Look for cells that have only two open neighbors — the path must pass through them in a predictable direction.

↩️

Work backwards from later waypoints when the start has too many options.

🏝️

Avoid creating isolated regions that the path cannot re-enter.

📐

Edge and corner cells are easiest to reason about first because they have fewer neighbors.

Difficulty Levels

The grid is always 6×6. Difficulty is controlled by the number of numbered waypoints revealed.

Easy

7–8 waypoints shown, creating short free segments between guides.

Medium

5–6 waypoints with moderate open sections to navigate.

Hard

4–5 waypoints leaving long stretches without guidance.

Expert

Only 3–4 waypoints — near-free routing with minimal help.
